box project more images
i experimented with wax but found that they loose there shape too easily and would melt under lighting.
i tried a substance called wax glass to try and add elegance by making it look like glass however this dries sticky.
i decorated the spray painted items
this is a plaster cast that went wrong because the original item melted under the heat of the melted silicone , however this adds a effect of deterioration and appears deformed , i found this interesting and i will experiment with this some more.
box projects concepts
this project has come from a project brief called the box project. i came across the idea for my work from mind mapping childhood and sentimentality.
i then thought about the value of sentimentality and what is considered valuable.
i decided to use everyday low cost objects found in many homes, the objects are supposed to be from a middle class background because they are inexpensive where as a wealthy household might have items made of crystal for example.
i wanted to re create the objects to add value to them by turning them into a piece of art. i also want them to be ridiculous and witty to poke fun at the way we put prices onto things and the way we judge different classes of people.
this has also expanded into mocking museums and the fact that if you put an object into a museum it automatically becomes valuable and that we accept information from museums as absolute truth.
i have made my objects from herculite plaster and then spray painted them in child like colours. I've been experimenting with patterns and glitter and plastic diamonds to enhance the silliness of them.
my ideas are strongly influenced by Jeff Koons .
